Green For Everyone

Green

AboveTel’s commitment to the environment starts with our own operations and extends to the solutions that we provide to our customers, which empower them to reduce the own greenhouse gas emissions.

Saving the Planet Is Easier than You Might Think

The challenge of saving the planet sounds overwhelming at first. Many people question whether they can really make a difference. If you travel by air for business, you can make an enormous difference in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. For many companies, air travel is the single largest component of their overall carbon footprint. Since jet exhaust is mostly CO2, even short trips have a major impact on the level of carbon released into the environment.

Air travel’s carbon impact (CO2 per round trip, per passenger):
  • Los Angeles to Tokyo = 4.49 metric tons
  • Washington D.C. to San Francisco = 2.32 metric tons
  • New York to Chicago = 0.59 metric tons

The cruising altitude of commercial jets, straddling the tropospheric and stratospheric boundary about 10-12 km above the earth, is the most sensitive part of our atmosphere. The discharge of greenhouse gases in this region cause significantly more damage than other sources of CO2 emissions. While it remains important to engage in carbon cutting in all areas of our work and home life, the fact is that a single airline trip can outweigh other initiatives, which is why reducing air travel needs to be a high priority for all of us.

Video Telepresence: Good for the Planet and Good for Business

There has always been and always will be a need for in person communication. The difference today is that technology, such as high definition video conferencing, provides a viable in person alternative to travel. In person communication using video is not just good for the planet, it is also good for business. Less travel reduces CO2 emissions, lowers travel costs, increases productivity, and improves employee morale through more time at home.

With such strong global interest in addressing carbon emissions, a growing number of customers, business partners, and employees are making decisions about who to buy from, who to partner with, and who to work for based on a company’s commitment to green initiatives. Over 53% of companies surveyed reported that they are more likely to purchase from green companies. 80% of employees said that they prefer to work for companies with green initiatives.

Video communication provides a significant opportunity to reduce carbon emissions. Every trip you can avoid directly impacts the environment as well as your business. AboveTel further expands the green benefits of video telepresence by extending it beyond the enterprise to include all of your external business partners creating a larger opportunity to reduce travel and your company’s overall carbon footprint.

AboveTel’s Commitment to the Planet

AboveTel is dedicated to being an environmentally friendly company. We believe this is a better way of doing business. It creates value across the company as well as reducing environmental impact. Easy to say but what does it really mean?

  • AboveTel’s business is about enabling in person communication without the need for unnecessary travel.
  • We use our own collaboration technologies every day to conduct business between our own locations as well as with external partners.
  • We make our own internal video conferencing systems available for use by other companies in our building to help them reduce their travel.
  • Our offices are specifically chosen for their access to public transportation from all parts of the metro areas we’re in.
  • We have instituted a discount program to promote the use of public transportation.
  • In our offices we’ve implemented recycling programs, instituted the use of personal mugs over disposable cups, and make filtered water available for our employees eliminating the need for bottled water.

We view the above as just a start. At AboveTel we’re committed to a process of continually reviewing our progress and in striving to identify new green initiatives that we can implement to help further reduce our carbon footprint.
